Process Paper
We chose this topic because we wanted to learn more about Guam and it’s era after World War 2. I (Jane Angara) was watching the Guam military channel and that is when I saw a short video regarding Camp Roxas. After watching the video, I wanted to learn more about it. That’s why I shared this information to my partner, Lianna Bloom. We were both intrigued about Camp Roxas and decided that it would be our topic for NHD.
First, we searched Camp Roxas on the Internet. There wasn’t a lot of websites about our topic but there was one website that’s dedicated to it. We read the articles on that website and watched some videos. The information from that website wasn’t enough so we kept searching for other websites. I (Lianna Bloom) was looking at several different websites about Camp Roxas and found multiple videos, but there was something missing from our research. We needed to learn about how the workers lived and how they adapted to their new home. I (Jane Angara) told my parents about the topic and that is when I found out that my grandfather used to be in Camp Quezon, which is another camp here on Guam just like Camp Roxas. I (Jane Angara) was able to interview my grandfather about Camp Quezon and that gave us an idea about how the laborers lived. After that we went to the Guam Public Library but there was no luck. We scheduled another day for research at the University of Guam to gather more information about our topic. We went back to the University of Guam at the MARC library on February 22, 2014. There we read newspaper articles about Camp Roxas and took down notes. Now that we have plenty of information, we started creating our website.
Lianna and I decided to create a website because there weren’t many websites about Camp Roxas. In addition to that we are very familiar at creating websites and technology. Before creating a website, Lianna and I drew a plan of what the structure of the website would be like. Then we typed out what we put on the website before we published it. We also had our teachers read through our documents and they gave us feedback and suggestions. We used Weebly to create our website. We looked at the types of formats and layouts that we could have used before we started making the website. We did this so that we could be organized and to stick to our plan. Then we started working on putting our information into the website. Once we were done we had our parents look over our work before we had our teachers look over it. It took a lot of time and dedication to finish our website. The times spent researching and going to the library paid off because we gathered valuable information about Camp Roxas and had a website that Jane and I are proud to put our names on.
