Aftermath
The first mission for the laborers was to clear the debris from World War 2 and then start constructing buildings. After that they started constructing military bases such as Andersen Air Force Base. After several years of hard work, the Filipinos were to re-build the island. They worked very hard and dedicated many hours to achieve this goal. Each and every one of them contributed to this accomplishment, and in addition to that, they were able to build strong friendships. The Filipino laborers helped, encouraged, and motivated each other in order for them to keep going forward no matter what harsh conditions they were facing. Today we barely see the havoc that was caused by the Japanese Occupation due to the fact that the laborers worked day and night to fix the damage. As the years past, many changes happened in Camp Roxas. One of the tragic changes was the abandonment of the Roxas Village. More than half of the contract workers and employees had returned to the Philippines or have gotten other contracts from other firms. Other laborers became U.S citizens. In addition to that today the Filipino-American community is the largest ethnic minority here on Guam. It takes up about 30% of the island's population.
